Fantastic Team success

The issue of which team would be crowned winner of the 2014 FIA Formula One World Championship has long been settled, as despite the new points system, the lead over the competition was too large. However, the exciting question still remained as to which of the two MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS drivers would take the Drivers’ Championship.

“We share the joy of the whole team because we know that such a great success can only be achieved by working together”, says Rainer Hundsdörfer, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the ebm-papst group. “We are proud that with our solutions for ventilation and air-conditioning we were able to be a team partner working closely with the engineers, mechanics and drivers in this success.”

Since the start of the 2014 World Championship season, Formula One has been flying the flag for energy efficiency. To keep ahead of the competition, MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS decided to team up with ebm-papst. Engineers from the two companies are working together to develop cooling concepts for the racing cars with the explicit aim of then incorporating the beneficial effects into series production. “We are delighted that MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS is showing so much interest in our sustainable technology and that we are able to play a part in the Formula One re-orientation process,” explains Hundsdörfer. “From our point of view this partnership represents an investment for the future, as MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS is currently setting new standards in the field of aerodynamic efficiency.”

For the coming year it is planned that ebm-papst’s highly skilled engineers will design and implement further cooling solutions for the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Operations Centre in Brackley, UK. This will enable the team to reduce electricity usage and CO2 emissions to further support the facility’s ISO14001 status.
