She made the announcement last week ahead of the final selection for the Commonwealth Games. ‘It was not an easy decision for me at all but it feels that now is the right moment to pursue other aspects of my life.’

Joined by her dad, Emily visited ebm-papst A&NZ last week at their office in Melbourne to thank the company for their support during her career.

After spending 2 years in Amsterdam where she played for the Amsterdam Hockey and Bandy Club, one of the world’s best clubs, Emily will now relocate in Melbourne. She says she is now looking forward to going back to university to finish her nursing and business degree, ‘to have a normal life, doing normal sorts of things’.

She says the experiences she gained during her sports career are irreplaceable. For her ‘it is invaluable what you learn as a part of a team and can help you in a team work environment as well as in lots of areas in life’.

Regarding the support from ebm-papst, Emily notes that it ‘has been invaluable in terms of the financial support’ but she also appreciates the personal connection with ebm-papst, and ‘to be able to come in and everyone is very friendly. That is a kind of support as well.’

‘Hockey is not a very mature sport in Australia, and you don’t play for the money at all, so when you have a company that sponsors you and gives you a little bit of extra it just makes life easier.’ Corporate support plays an important role for many professional female athletes as government financial support in women’s sport is limited.

ebm-papst A&NZ have been sponsoring Emily since 2009 and have always followed her growth in the world of professional Hockey.

The company is proud of Emily’s successes and would like to congratulate Emily on an amazing international career. ebm-papst A&NZ wish her all the best and is sure that she will be able to profit greatly from her experiences gained playing Hockey.
