High level data-exchange between ebm-papst GreenTech EC fans & Carel Universal Gateway

ebm-papst A&NZ have successfully developed and tested high-level data exchange between ebm-papst GreenTech EC plug fans and the CAREL designed ebm-papst Universal Gateway.

High level data-exchange has been successfully established and tested between ebm-papst EC plug fans K3G250AV29B2 (with MODBUS RS485) and the Carel Universal Gateway. The fans can be controlled via the Carel Universal Gateway. An alternative would be the pCO Web software where fan control can also be established.

The main features of the CAREL pCO Web Universal Gateway designed for ebm-papst are:

  • Enables connection to ebm-papst GreenTech EC fans by third party controllers using most common HVAC open protocols viz. MODBUS, BACnet
  • Up to 30 fans in one serial line
  • Integrated display to view and change the main fan parameters (without use of laptop)

Using the gateway, ebm-papst were able to WRITE to each of the connected fan:

  • MODBUS address of the connected fans, in this case fan address 1, 2 and 3
  • Set an absolute speed in rpm to each of the three connected fans

ebm-papst were also able to READ from each of the connected EC fan:

  • Speed in rpm
  • DC Link voltage
  • DC Link current
  • Input power in watts
  • Direction of rotation
  • Electronics temperature in deg C.

The above data exchange was successfully replicated (READ and WRITE) using the pCO web, communicating with the fans via the Universal Gateway, according to the setup outlined in the Success Story, which can be downloaded here.
