Inaugural Sydney GreenDay a sustainable success for ebm-papst A&NZ and TAFE Ultimo

Sustainability in HVAC – this was the focus topic of the inaugural Sydney GreenDay in late July. Jointly organised by ebm-papst A&NZ and TAFE Ultimo, speakers from government and industry shared their knowledge on what it means to drive HVAC industry innovation through upgrade projects and supporting policies. It was held at TAFE Ultimo’s historic Turner Hall.

The networking event, which had previously only been held in Melbourne, and is now in its sixth year, aims to connect practitioners, educators and students from the HVAC&R industry.

Guests were welcomed by TAFE NSW Sydney Region Regional General Manager Alison Wood. Presentations focusing on government policy were kicked off by Leigh Burrell from the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage, presenting information around the NSW Energy Savings Scheme, while City of Sydney’s Nik Midlam shared his insights into greenhouse gas targets and trends. Darren Teoh from AMP Capital presented a large end user’s perspective on the drivers for energy efficiency upgrades.

The second half of the morning was dedicated to ‘applied energy efficiency’, in which end users and contractors shared their success stories. Ecovantage’s Bertram Duerr presented a successful retailer building upgrade, while Rod Kington shared his insights from a commercial building HVAC upgrade. The day concluded with a tour of the TAFE Ultimo campus, conducted by Head Teacher Irfan Hai, and a display of the ARBS renewable energy technology solar air-conditioning project, which is currently in its data collection phase.

ebm-papst would like to thank all presenters, guests and TAFE Ultimo for their support in organising this event, which is sure to be continued in the future. The next GreenDay will take place in Auckland, New Zealand on 11 October 2017. Register online via https://form.jotform.co/ebmpapst/greenday2017.
